Take the PreSAT practice tests as often as you can starting your sophomore year in high school (without getting burned out). Start taking the true SAT at the latest your junior year. Take the actual SAT test no more than three times though. You will need these test scores to be as high as possible for college entrance so study, practice and test often.

Consider community colleges or trade schools in your city. At least for the first 2 years. They are considerably less expensive, you could live at home, save tons of money, get your basic general education requirements completed and minimally get an Associate’s Degree. Once you have decided your major you can then transfer into the College or University of your choice degree.

Apply for ANY and ALL scholarships your junior and senior high school year, but be wise. There are so many of the smaller scholarships, you could get burned out. Typically, the college to which you are applying has the best options for getting the larger scholarships. You do not have to be financially destitute either to get scholarships. Consider out-of-state colleges for sure. They are definitely options now a days and with scholarships they are sometimes less expensive than some in-state colleges.
